Just had this thru on my work email account, n' I gotta say, I'm more spooked now than I ever was... gonna be paranoid as hell LOL! But they're definitely good things to take note of....
"Women.... In light of the recent kidnapping and now murder of Leigh Matthews I think it
is important to read the following info for your own safety.
Things women (in fact all of us) should know to stay safe:
Please take the time to read these pointers. There may just be one or two you hadn't thought of.
After reading this, forward it to anyone you care about. It never hurts to be careful in this crazy world we live in.
1. Tip from Tae Kwon Do: The elbow is the strongest point on your body. If you are close enough to use it, do so!
2. If a robber asks for your handbag, DO NOT HAND IT TO HIM. Toss it away from you.... he is probably more interested in your handbag than you and he will
go for the handbag. RUN LIKE MAD IN THE OTHER DIRECTION!
3. If you are ever thrown into the boot of a car: Kick out the back tail lights and stick your arm through the hole and start waving. The driver won't see you but everybody else will. This has saved lives.
4.Women have a tendency to get into their cars after shopping, eating, working, etc., and just sit (doing their cheque book, or making a list). DON'T DO THIS! A predator could be watching you, and this is the perfect opportunity for him to get in on the passenger side, and attack you. AS SOON AS YOU GET INTO YOUR CAR, LOCK THE DOORS AND LEAVE.
5. A few notes about getting into your car in a car park:
A.) Be aware: look around you, look into your car, at the passenger side floor, and check the back seat.
B.) If you are parked next to a big van, enter your car from the passenger door. Most attackers surprise their victims by pulling them into their vans while the women are
attempting to get into their cars.
C.) Look at the car parked on the driver's side of your vehicle, and the passenger side. If a male is sitting alone in the seat nearest your car, you should think about walking
back into the shop, or work, and get a guard/policeman to walk you back out. IT IS ALWAYS BETTER TO BE SAFE THAN SORRY. (And better paranoid than dead!)
6. ALWAYS take the lift instead of the stairs. Stairwells are horrible places to be alone and the perfect crime spot.
7.If the predator has a gun and you are not under his control, ALWAYS RUN! The predator will only hit you (a running target) 4 in 100 times; and even then it most likely WILL NOT be a vital organ. SO RUN!!
8. As women, we are always trying to be sympathetic: STOP IT! It may get you raped, or killed. Ted Bundy, the serial killer, was a good-looking, well educated man, who ALWAYS played on the sympathies of unsuspecting women. He walked with a cane, or a limp, and often asked for "help" into his vehicle or with his vehicle, which is when he abducted his next victim.
9. Another Safety Point:
Someone just told me that her friend heard a crying baby on her porch the night before last, and she called the police because it was late and she thought it was weird. The police told her 'Whatever you do, DO NOT open the door." The lady then said that it sounded like the baby had crawled near a window, and she was worried that it would crawl to the street and get run over. The policeman said, "We already have a unit on the way, whatever you do, DO NOT open the door." He told her they think a serial killer has a baby's cry recorded and uses it to coax women out of their homes thinking that someone abandoned a baby. He said they have not verified it, but have had several calls by women saying that they hear babies' cries outside their doors when they're home alone at night. Please pass this on and DO NOT open the door for a crying baby.
The above is directed at women, but remember guys you may also be targeted in the same way, or your girlfriend/wife. Please forward this to everyone you know. It may save a life. A candle is not dimmed by lighting another candle. Sometimes we need to be reminded that the world we live in has a lot of crazies in it and it's better to be safe than sorry."

Nice list Spice! I'll hand it over to my wife. I have taught her some self-defense, but you can never know too much.
I would also recommend every woman gets a kubotan or a "punch dagger". You can get punch daggers that are fairly small and are concealed in belts. A punch dagger is a handle you hold in your fist, and the blade comes out from between your middle and ring fingers. You can get them with a blade of about 1"-2", or you can have one like mine that was about 4"+. You use it just like it sounds, you punch with it. Yeah, it does some damage. Now that I have kids, mine is packed away, since it is a little dangerous to have lying around.
A kubotan is a weapon you keep on your keys.

They are inexpensive and you can teach yourself how to use them. One of these, and the right pressure point, and you can inflict some SERIOUS pain. Here is a link to buy them:

I myself have about 5 of them. But I also have no shortage of martial arts weaponry around my place. Again though, most of it stored away.
These are my buddies though, and they stay by my bed, and used to stay in my car:

My Escrima sticks. I tried to teach my wife these, but they scared her.

[B]<font size=3>Believe it or not, in Canada you could face jailtime for using those lil nifty items on an unarmed attacker.....I've been around the block in martial arts and street fights and I would say that you had better make those wee weapons count the first time or you'll be in for a world of shit especially against some PCP'd up psycho...I prefer the toss the purse and run screaming idea if it is an option..

Yes, if the attacker just approaches you and tells you to give them something, hand it over and run like hell. But if they grab you, you need to do what you can to break the hold to give yourself the chance to run. None of those kubatons are meant to do anything but give you a chance to run. The punch dagger (the small one) os pretty much the same. The big one, like I have, is meant to do a little more. But I have the problem with most Martial Arts schools in that they teach you how to do your moves to the point of holding the person at bay for a few minutes. Most of the moves taught are taught just short of where they are meant to be taken. All of my students learned the full moves, and that was up to the point of breaking a bone, or turning the attackers blade on them and doing to them what they threatened to do to you.
The escrima sticks will also do a little bit more than just stun a person for a second. I garauntee you that after a few seconds with those, the person isn't getting up to do anything.
Now obviously all of these weapons and techniques go out the window when faced with a gun.

[B]<font size=3>I would also take issue with *Tae Kwan Do* offering self defence advice...Tae Kwan Do is far more sport and conditioning than self defence..It's tournaments are so bunged up with petty rules that they wouldn't know how to handle themselves on the street...and it is amusing that most Tae Kwan Do practioners carry their hands low and rarely use their upper body..the elbow ??...again...make it count...You UK people should stick with knodders...far more effective <img src="http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/icons/icon6.gif"

Good advice, Spicey. I hope I follow it in the future. I didn't once, when some fukker tried to steal my handbag after a night out. Fukker tried to strangle me,was quite bruised and couldn't talk for a week due to temporary damage to throat. And did the police ever catch this criminal? No.But I learned my lesson in a hard way,huh
